It's not Hip Hop FFS.
Have people really not heard of Grime. I mean it's only been around about 15 years.

I've just invented a new genre. It's the sound of me clapping my bollocks together while grunting.

What should this important cultural movement be called I wonder?

You'd think after all these years the punters would have realised the judges of the Mercury Prize are deliberately perverse.
Definitely in league with the bookmakers

Re: Mercury Prize 2016
What Skepta has done for young mainly black artists has been phenomenal. If you're into that sort of music you'd understand.

For example, the £25,000 he won last night is being donated to under privileged children.

Re: Mercury Prize 2016
Well then for £25,000 they should ditch this black lives matter bollocks as they are well sorted now.

Re: Mercury Prize 2016
Skepta is a fucking legend. And to think he didn't even start out on the mic.

Meant to be one of the most chilled out and approachable people about as well.

Been great watching him rise up from almost nothing.

Even the most neophobic old fart should be able to appreciate the fact someone who's stayed true and done his own thing has achieved an award over some dreary floppy haired self centred cunt moaning about how miserable they are or a manufactured pop princess.

Re: Mercury Prize 2016
As always the narrow mindedness displayed on this site is a joy to behold. That said Skepta does nothing for me and the Mercury Prize has been a joke for years. A bit like the Booker Prize in that it is not necessarily judging what is the best but is trying to introduce the wider public to something 'new'.

Sven Roeder 11:37 Fri Sep 16
Re: Mercury Prize 2016
To be honest I don't really see any point in prizes for best album or best film but if you are going to have them I prefer something like this that tries to expose people to a whole bunch of artists that they might not otherwise hear.

Some people seem to take it as a personal affront when their 'team' doesn't win as though its a football match.
As David Bowie might have said .... turn and face the strange.

Re: Mercury Prize 2016
It's an awards ceremony. Its a business. It's a bit irrelevant who wins its who's making the money. If you want to find new artists get on Spotify or even go to a fucking record shop.
